August 3, 2007 09:38 - Huge Fisher Price Toy Recall

Fisher-Price has done a voluntary recall of 967,000 toys that contained paint with excessive levels of lead in it. Lead is toxic if ingested by young children and can cause adverse health effects.

Description: The recalled involves various figures and toys that were manufactured between April 19, 2007 and July 6, 2007 and were sold alone or as part of sets. The model names and product numbers for the recalled toys, which are all marked with "Fisher-Price," are listed below. The toys may have a date code between 109-7LF and 187-7LF marked on the product or packaging.

Below is the inside scoop on what goes down at celebrity baby showers!

Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale's Baby Shower: Had a pink lamb theme to match Gwen's L.A.M.B. clothing line. Some of the guests included, Christina Applegate and David Arquette and they were given truffles and flowers to take home as gifts.

Shaunie and Shaquille O'Neal's Baby Shower: They entertained 150 guests. All of which were treated to manicures, pedicures, and massages. Knitting lessons were offered as well! To keep Shaq's friends happy, tables were set up for them to play blackjack, craps and poker. Guests received hip Wendy Bellisimo diaper bags to take home.

Jennifer Meyer and Tobey Maguire's Baby Shower: Guests included Courtney Cox-Arquette, Jennifer Garner, Kate Hudson, Demi Moore and Jennifer Aniston. They were given fresh lemonade and hors d'oeuvres such as sesame shrimp and chicken skewers before sitting down to a catered buffet lunch. Later, Jennifer received many gifts from the trendy L.A. baby boutique, Petit Tresor.

Kim Porter and Sean "P- Diddy" Combs' Baby Shower: They had a "Pretty in Pink Baby Shower." Guests had shrimp, pink cocktails, specially made pink M&Ms and Perrier Jouet champagne in pink floral bottles. Denzel Washington gave the twins a pink-and-white chandelier from Ga Ga Designs. Jay-Z and Beyonce Knowles gave them a custom-made changing table, and LL Cool J came with with two designer cream-colored cribs!

Tori Spelling and Dean McDermott's Baby Shower: The couple entertained 50 baby shower guests at Hollywood's Elixir Tonic & Tea. Since the couple knew they were having a little boy, the baby shower was done up with a blue theme. They served food on blue Etch-a-Sketch trays piled high with comfort foods like grilled cheese sandwiches, tuna melts, mini corn dogs and pigs in a blanket. Dessert included indigo cake icing and tasty blueberry popsicles. Blue lanterns and tons of votive candles were placed throughout the restaurant. Stunning turquoise vases were filled with white amaryllis flowers. The baby shower favors given out were cosmetic lip enhancers, $600 pearl bracelets and top of the line designer baby blankets.

August 6, 2007 21:30 - 140,000 Window Blinds Recalled Can Cause Choking

140,000 Window Blinds Sold at Lowe’s Stores Have Been Recalled for Repair by Springs Window Fashions Due to Strangulation Hazard.

This recall involves two inch Natural Faux Wood Plantation Blinds sold under the Basic Blindz® brand. The blinds have a yellow steel top rail, also called the head rail, a cord tilter on the left side (to tilt the slats open or closed), and a double pull cord that meets at a cord connector and ends in a single cord on the right side (to raise and lower the blinds). Stickers inside the top rail state: Springs Window Fashion LLC, Middleton, WI 53562,” “Made in China,” and “Manufacturing Date Code. Blinds with manufacturing date codes JX, JY, JZ, KO, KP, KQ, KR, KS, and KT are included in the recall.

The blinds were sold at Lowe’s stores from March 2007 through July 2007 for between $24 and $40.

What to do: Stop using the recalled window blinds and contact Springs Window Fashions (at (866) 305-8652 between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. Eastern time, Monday through Friday )to receive a free retrofit kit. See photos of the blinds and serial numbers on the Consumer Product Safety Commission's website.

Today, Mattel has recalled more toys that were made in China.

The first being, Pixar Die Cast Cars "Sarge" Lead Paint Hazard Recall

Hazard: Surface paints on the toys could contain lead levels in excess of federal standards. Lead is toxic if ingested by young children and can cause adverse health effects.

No injuries have been reported.

Description: The recall involves die cast Sarge 2 ˝ inch toy cars. The toy looks like a military jeep and measures about 2 ˝ inches long by 1 inch high by 1 inch wide. The recalled toy has the markings 7EA and China on the bottom. The Sarge toy car is sold alone or in a package of two, and may have the product number M1253 (for single cars) and K5925 (for cars sold as a set) printed on the packaging. The cars marked Thailand are not included in this recall.

Sold at: Retail stores nationwide from May 2007 through August 2007 for between $7 and $20 (depending on whether they were sold individually or in sets).

Barbie® Doll and Tanner Magnet Hazard Recall

Hazard: A small magnet inside the scooper accessory can come loose. Magnets found by young children can be swallowed or aspirated. If more than one magnet is swallowed, the magnets can attract each other and cause intestinal perforation or blockage, which can be fatal.

Incidents/Injuries: The firm has received three reports of magnets coming loose. No injuries have been reported.

Sold at: Toy stores and various other retailers nationwide May 2006 to August 2007 for about $16.

There has been a recall announcement affecting Polly Pocket™, Batman™ Magna, Doggie Daycare and Shonen Jump's One Piece playsets containing small powerful magnets.

Incidents/Injuries: Since the previous recall announcement, Mattel has received more than 400 additional reports of magnets coming loose. CPSC was aware in the first recall announcement of 170 reports of the magnets coming out of the recalled toys. There had been three reports of serious injuries to children who swallowed more than one magnet. All three suffered intestinal perforations that required surgery.

Description: The recalled Polly Pocket play sets contain plastic dolls and accessories that have small magnets. The magnets measure 1/8 inch in diameter and are embedded in the hands and feet of some dolls, and in the plastic clothing, hairpieces and other accessories to help the pieces attach to the doll or to the doll’s house. The model number is printed on the bottom of the largest pieces on some of the play sets. Products manufactured after November 1, 2006 and are currently on store shelves are not included in this recall. Contact Mattel if you cannot find a model number on your product to determine if it is part of the recall.

Additional Reports of Magnets Detaching from Polly Pocket Play Sets Prompts Expanded Recall by Mattel Sold at: Toy stores and various other retailers from May 2003 through November 2006 for between $15 and $30.

Manufactured in: China

Remedy: Consumers should immediately take these recalled toys away from children and contact Mattel to receive a voucher for a replacement toy of the customer’s choice, up to the value of the returned product.

Kick your baby shower food up a notch with these simple and scrumptious Satay Wraps!

Satay Wraps

1/2 c. beef broth
1/3 c. creamy peanut butter
2 tsp. corn starch
1 Tbs. vegetable oil
3 minced garlic cloves
1 lb. lean ground beef
1 c. shredded carrots
1/4 c. chopped green onions
2-3 Tbs. soy sauce
Chopped peanuts
Lettuce leaves (cups) - Boston lettuce works great
Cilantro

In a small saucepan, heat the broth, peanut butter and cornstarch until melted, set aside, away from heat.
In a large non-stick skillet, heat oil over medium-high heat and add garlic. Cook for 1 minute, then add beef and cook thoroughly. Pour peanut butter sauce into skillet over beef. Cook for 2 minutes, or until thick. Remove from heat and stir in carrots, onions and soy sauce. Serve wrapped in lettuce leaves, garnish with peanuts and cilantro.

Serves 6

Serve with steamed white rice and fortune cookies.

Bridget Moynahan had a little boy on Wednesday in Los Angeles. According to her publicist, Christina Papadopoulos, "Mother and baby are doing well."

Bridget was almost two weeks overdue. The father, Tom Brady left training camp in Boston on Wednesday for Los Angeles, and there is a rumor that he missed the birth by just minutes. He was seen carrying flowers into the hospital.

• Arrange colorful gourds and mini pumpkins on a mantle, table top or platter


• Hollow out a whole in the top of some mini pumkins and place a tea lite in the middle


• Spread dried indian corn around on tabletops and counters


• Place mini hay bales (found at craft stores) at the front set a scarecrow on top


• Sprinkle dried tree leaves around


• Cut sprigs of fall-colored branches and leaves and place in a vase


• Buy a fall wreath at a craft store, place in the middle of the table and put a large clear vase with a white pillar candle in the middle


• Spray paint small tree branches white and place on the table along with votive candles in holders


• Serve bowls of mixed nuts (still in their shell)


• Take a medium-sized tree branch and poke it into a terra cotta pot, filled with flower arrangement foam. Top with decorative grass


• Decorate the tree with baby booties, bibs, rattles, pacifiers, etc. You can even spray paint the tree to match the color of the shower theme
