Baby Stacking Toy Cake

Baby Stacking Toy Cake

Baby Stacking Toy Cake

Instructions for Baby Stacking Toy Cake

I made this cake for my daughter who was expecting her first child. I wanted to attempt something out of the ordinary so I tried to duplicate a stacking toy I bought as a present for my yet unborn grandson.

It is four double layers of carrot cake with cream cheese butter cream filling between the layers and all covered in fondant. The layer sizes are 4, 6, 8, and 10. The head with nose and eyes are covered Styrofoam. Other materials I tried including the krispy treats were too heavy.

special deal for our readers!

I had to make each layer separately covered in fondant and assemble the cake where the shower was taking place because it was too heavy to transport assembled. I had cardboard separations between each layer and small wooden dowels to support each layer.

I made the loops on the top layer in time to allow them to set up so they would hold their shape and attached each loop with a small piece of raw spaghetti.

This cake took close to 18 hours total to complete. It was truly a labor of love. My daughter appreciated my effort.

by: Bonnie

When Ann asked me to log on to see her mother's cake, I was expecting a cake. I wasn't expecting to see the creative masterpiece above! Wow! I am truly blown away!!! This work of art is truly one of a kind. How do you follow a cake like that? Wait! I have it. How about 50th Wedding Anniversary Stacking Cake? Ann, did you say that your mom and dad will be visiting Iowa next June? I can hardly wait. Congratulation! This cake deserves to win.

Creative edible art!
by: Ann Margrave

Although I was not able to be present at the baby shower to see the cake in person Mom and I had many a phone conversation about this particuar cake. It was a labor of love and one that Mom saw as a fun and creative challenge. After the shower many relatives and friends wowed over the delicious and inventive cake for weeks. Mom truly is an artist who not only has an unmatched attention to detail she also creates cakes that taste as good as they look!

Living in the Shadow of the Artist
by: Tom Margrave

I live with Marianne, the artist, who comes up with these creations. I have seen her create these with lots of love and a professional attention to detail which wows recipients in any venue. She does individual baptismal cakes for our church and has done other cakes for those we know. It is a privilege to assist her as I can (mostly by staying out of the way although I do some of the heavy lifting!) This one was particularly spectacular, and she did it along with all the planning for the 'mother's' baby shower for her daughter.

Simply Delicious
by: Veronica Krause

I am the daughter that this amazing cake lady speaks of. I thought my mom was nuts when she told me she was going to make the baby shower cake in the shape of the stacking toy. People at the shower were in amazement that it was actually a cake. No one wanted to cut into it because it was so awesome. However, when we finally did delve into the homemade carrot cake with buttercream filling, it was to die for. People were still talking about this cake weeks later. It has become the gold standard for cake decorating with my friends as many conversations start with, "Well, it was nothing like your mom's cake...."
