Blue and Brown Polka Dot Cake

Blue and Brown Polka Dot Cake

Blue and Brown Polka Dot Cake

This is a three tier square lemon pound cake. It is iced in American buttercream and the accents are fondant. Everything is edible, even the mommy holding her belly! The mommy and the bow were made a few days ahead and set to dry. I used gumpaste tools to mold most of the pieces.

My favorite and most valuable tool is my exacto knife. The mommy is all built and molded in one piece and she has a pretzel rod stuck in the top of her into the cake so she stays in place. The bottles and pacified were all hand made (no molds used) with gumpaste tools as well and are all out of fondant.

Trouble with Fondant
by: Denise

I have made a couple of cakes with fondant and have tried using it to mold shapes like numbers for toppers and such but the fondant would not dry and stiffen enough to stand up. Did you add gum paste to yours or anything. I made my own marshmallow fondant was yours purchased? Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. My email is: mraontiderinsider@yahoo.com
