Blue and Brown Polka Dot Diaper Cake
Blue and Brown Polka Dot Diaper Cake
Materials:
- approx 60 diapers (newborn size)
- gift wrap ribbon (blue)
- Brown and White Polka dot ribbon (Michaels Crafts)
- Blue ribbon (Michaels)
- Accessories ie: pacifiers, onesies, bibs, burp rag, socks, small stuffed animals, bath stuff
1) Roll each diaper with the print inside or out depending on your preference. Tie it closed with gift wrap ribbon. (A better idea is to use rubber bands but in this case I tied each one with blue ribbon.)
2) Tie each rolled diaper to another in a spiral/circle rotation. Start with one in the center and work around it. I made my topper first with 8 diapers. I suggest making the topper first so you can gauge the size of the next layer afterwards.
3) Follow step 2 for the middle and bottom layers. For the middle layer add one additional row around the original 8 diapers. For the bottom layer add two rows to the original 8 diapers.
4) Stack the layers on top of each other and wrap the ribbons around the bottom half to define the separation of layers.
5) I wrapped the middle layer with a matching blanket then wrapped the ribbon around that.
6) Add accessories. Put a stuffed animal on the topper to top it off.
7) I made origami onesies to look like small elephants. To do this I Googled towel origami and found a website that gave step by step instructions on how to make origami elephants out of towels. My onesies were not as great looking as the towels but hey they were cute and it got a lot of good reviews. I placed those around the cake not on it.
