Cradle Baby Shower Cake
Bake 2 full sheet cakes and cut them in half (so you have 4 rectangles of cake). Stack the 4 rectangles of cake, one on top of the other, using buttercream filling in between each layer. Cut a smaller rectangle from the top of the cake to make an indent (this is where you will place the baby later).

special deal for our readers!Cover the whole cake in buttercream and then rolled fondant. Start with white fondant and mix in a little brown food coloring to get a marbled effect. Mark the seams of the cradle with a toothpick and make "knob" marks at each corner by gently pressing a round cookie cutter into the cake.
Paint the fondant using a mixture of brown food coloring and lemon extract. This will give your fondant a wood grain finish. Make the baby by hand using fondant (roll a small ball for the head and a sausage shape for the body). Make the blanket by rolling yellow fondant thinly, and then cut the edges with a knife to make fringe. The cradle feet are fondant covered rice krispie treats and the handles are fondant "C's" attached with water. Finish it off with a plastic candy-filled rattle from your local craft/party supply store.
