Girl or Boy - It's A Joy - Diaper Cake! I had never heard of a diaper cake before making this one. I was cruising the internet to get some cute ideas for the gift table, when I came across a photo of a diaper cake. I fell in love with the creativity in giving such a useful gift. This cake took approximately 80 diapers. I used 2 sizes - newborn and the next step up. The cake is made of a series of rolled up diapers, tied with ribbon and assembled together in the appropriate sized circle. I tied and pinned the circle together with wide blanket binding, which was less expensive than ribbon of the same width. I repeated this process for 2 additional layers, each decreasing in size to form a tiered cake look. Once the tiers were stacked, I used dowel rods inserted through the 3 tiers to secure the layers. The top layer is made by placing a baby bottle in the center and surrounding it with rolled up diapers. Because this was my daughter's shower, I filled the bottle with rolled up money. After that, the fun began. Attaching every conceivable accessory a baby could need was a blast. I used ribbon and diaper pins to secure them in place. The whole creation was placed on the same cake base that my daughter's wedding cake was on. Grandchildren really do complete the circle of love. Enjoy the journey.
