Dots and Flowers 2nd Birthday Cake
This is a cake I made for my granddaughter's 2nd birthday, but I think it would be very appropriate for a baby shower with the proper wording.
I used all Betty Crocker cake mixes for this cake, a high humidity buttercream icing recipe from the Wilton website, and homemade marshmallow fondant made with 2 tablespoons of water, a 16 ounce bag of marshmallows, and a 2 pound bag of powdered sugar for each batch. I made 5 batches in all, but 4 would have probably been enough. The fondant was colored with the Wilton gel colorings.
The bottom tier is two 10" layers made with 3 boxes of chocolate fudge cake mix. The middle tier is three 8" layers made with two boxes of yellow cake mix. The top tier is two 6" layers made with one box of party rainbow chip cake mix. Both upper tiers are on cake boards and supported by dowel rods, and there is one long dowel rod through the center of the whole cake for stability.

special deal for our readers!I also made matching individually wrapped vanilla sugar cookies (also a Wilton recipe) that were cut with the same large Wilton flower/petal cookie cutter set I used to cut the half flowers that decorate the center tier of the cake. They were also decorated with fondant.
My suggestion to anyone attempting to do a cake of this type is to do as much prep work as you can days in advance. I had already made all of my fondant, icing, and the undecorated cookies in advance and it still took me two full days to decorate the cookies, make the cakes and assemble it all.
The star and flower decorations sticking out of the cake were simply suckers cut to different lengths.
