Christening Cake
Everyone loved this Christening cake and couldn't stop saying how great it looked.
First, I bought wrapping paper to cover my cake board then I went and bought 4 square fruit cakes(depending on your cake size) then I got out a square cake tin and placed cut fruit cakes inside to make a base.
Then I turned it over to get it out then filled rest of the caps and fruit holes with left over fruit cake then glazed whole cake with a little bit of water to help the marzipan icing to stick.
I then rolled out approx 4 boxes of marzipan icing about 2cms thick then carefully placed on top.
I then repeated these same steps to make a smaller rectangle on top.
Then I got a wooden skewer and carefully pushed the side of the skewer into the icing to make an "x" cross pattern (make sure you pre-work it out so it joins together at the back).
Then I stuck sugar balls where the skewer lines crossed over.
I then put silver ribbon along the bottoms of the 2 cakes to make it look a bit nicer then I rolled another piece of marzipan really thinly and just placed it roughly (like a blanket) over the top and down one side.
Next, I decorated with blue coloured roses/green petals which i made from left over marzipan icing.
After that, I got some blue bows for the corners and some christening decorations from a local craft shop and got my sons initials in silver scrapbooking letters.(K.A.J.M)
