Little boy monkey cake

1st layer 30 diapers
2nd layer 20 diapers
3rd layer 10 diapers
4th layer 5 diapers

I used New Born Diapers

Started wrapping just at the bend of the diaper around a paper towel core. Secured with rubber bands when it got so big I couldn't hold it any more. Bought ribbon and wrapped around diaper layers to cover rubber bands. Put stuffed animals, sample baby products, Pacifier, nail clippers, comb and brush and other small baby stuff in the ribbons.

Monkey Boy 3-Tier Diaper Cake

by Estella Cuadrado
(San Diego, CA)

Monkey Boy 3-Tier Diaper Cake

Monkey Boy 3-Tier Diaper Cake

I made this Monkey boy 3-tier diaper cake for my daughter's baby shower. In the picture I am submitting, it is only showing (3) 8"inch one layer diapers it should have been (5) 8"inch one layer diaper cakes circling around the 3-tier diaper cake. I made a total of 8 diaper cakes.

I used:

141 size 2 diapers
6 1/2 yards of brown ribbon
6 1/2 yards of baby blue ribbon (It's a boy!) reading in the middle of the ribbon.
2 Blue baby spoons
2 Green baby spoons
8 1/2 Yards brown lace
8 1/2 Yards baby blue lace
5 Yards white beads
8"inch cake board
14"inch cake board
Baby blue baby blocks (party favors)
5 Baby blue baby buggies (party favors)
5 Baby blue baby rattles (party favors)
1 Baby bottle (party favors)
1 Baby blue heavy weight balloon holder
2 Baby blue buttons
2 White head pins
6 Baby blue baby booties (party favors)
6 Baby blue mother pins (party favors)
1 Monkey stuffed animal
5 paper plates
1 16.9fl oz empty water bottle
2 Wooden dowls
Bag of rubber bans
8 Cotton balls

For the bottom tier of the diaper cake, I rolled 55 diapers with rubber bans. Then I started to wrap the rolled diapers around the empty water bottle. Second 10"in. tier, I used 22 rolled diapers and wrapped around the empty water bottle where you longer see the water bottle.

Then, I place the 2-tier diaper cake onto a 14" cake board. On the 10" round diaper, I insert the baby spoons alternating colors. Then, I took the cotton and starting filling the gaps in between the diaper and the water bottle. Then I place the balloon heavy weight in the center of the 10"in diaper cake. The third tier, I rolled 14 diapers with rubber bans to a 8"in diaper cake.

Then, I took the 8"in cake board a made a slit in the center of the cake board. I placed the 8"in diaper cake on top of the cake board. I rolled (5) 8"in one layer diaper cakes, I used 14 diapers for each.

Then, I took the 5 paper plates and glued 1 plate on top of each of the (5) 8"in one layer diaper cakes. Then, I started to wrapping the brown ribbon around all diaper cakes covering the rubber bans. The I wrapped the baby blue ribbon in the middle of the brown ribbon.

With the remaining brown ribbon, I made 3 bows and glued them onto the each of the 3-tier diaper cake. I took the mother pins and pinned one to the 10"in diaper cake in the center of the brown bow and the other mother pins were pinned onto ea of the (5) 8"in one layer diaper cake.

I glued one baby buggy on the (5) 8"in one layer diaper cakes. I glued the baby blocks in between the baby spoons and glued the baby rattles on the edge of the 10"in diaper cake.

Then I inserted the wooden dowels onto the top of the tier of the diaper cake. Then placed the monkey in between the wooden dowels so the monkey stays in place. Then put the baby bottle one of the legs of the monkey along with 1 baby rattle.

Hope the instructions are clear. I really enjoyed making this monkey boy 3-tier diaper cake for my daughter. She is having a boy!

Bentley's "Little Monkey" Cake

by Sarah Crose
(Burlington, Iowa)

Bentley's Little Monkey Cake

Bentley's Little Monkey Cake

I decided to make this cake for my sister-in-law after talking to her other sisters and finding out they had little ideas for the shower.

I had all these grand ideas (thanks to all the other websites and pictures) It really came together nicely. This was my first diaper cake (hopefully not my last because I LOVED making it) I must say I was pretty impressed with myself!

I rolled all the diapers and created 6 tiers. I connected the first two tiers using the bottles of baby wash and lotion. The top two tiers were connected using the baby bottle.

I used a dowel rod to connect all the tiers and give it stability. I then wrapped each tier with a receiving blanket and then decorated each tier with ribbon which I attached using the sticky tape.

I filled the socks with tissue paper and used ribbon to hold them together. I rolled the mittens into roses and placed them throughout the cake. I took the other misc. items (teether and toys and binkies) and placed them on the outside of the cake as decorations.

I rolled the onesies, remaining blankets and sleepers and placed them with the diapers "inside" the cake. I attached the wooden letters to the cake with hot glue on the ribbon spelling out "Bentley" (baby's name) I placed the monkey security blanket on top and the monkey beanie baby on the side of the cake.

Ingredients:
100 size 1 diapers
84 size 2 diapers
1 large bottle baby wash
1 large bottle baby lotion
1 9 oz baby bottle
3 onesies
5 sleepers
8 receiving blankets
5 bibs
4 pairs of socks
4 pairs of mittens
1 pair of shoes
1 gel teether
1 monkey teether toy
1 monkey squeak toy
2 binkies
1 monkey beanie baby
1 monkey rattle wristband
1 monkey security blanket
1 wooden dowel rod
rubber bands
ribbon-various sizes
hot glue
double sided sticky tape
foam board for base
wrapping paper to cover base
paint to decorate base
wooden letters (painted)

Monkeying Around Diaper Cake

I made this two tiered Monkeying Around Diaper Cake by covering the bottom tier with a granny square crocheted blanket that I made and I covered the second tier with a receiving blanket.

I topped the cake with a soft cuddly monkey holding a bottle and stuffed a few diaper bag essentials from Johnson's.

Monkeying Around 4 Tier Diaper Cake

This cake has been one of my most popular cakes, and my favorite!

This 4 Tier cake is loaded with goodies. I start with a 14 inch Wilton cake circle. I begin rolling all my diapers and securing them with a rubber band.

Total of 88 diapers are in this cake. I place a 9 oz Gerber baby bottle (as the support) on the cake circle. I then line my diapers around the bottle securing with a rubber band. I continue to do this until it fills the cake circle.

I continue to make each layer the same way, using less diapers as you go up for a tiered look.

Then the fun part begins...the decorating. I use crinkle to fill in the layers (icing). The first tier is made of premium ribbons and hand tied bows. The second layer has ribbons, and iron on monkey, and a wooden palm tree.

I used 3 Gerber Monkey bibs on the third tier. The fourth tier has a wooden palm tree and a foam monkey. Then the topper Dangles the monkey sits on top overlooking the cake. I then add the sample products, and more decorative touches.

Thanks for taking time to check out my cake!

Monkey Business Diaper Cake

Supplies need to make this cake

size 1 diapers about 100 to 150 I chose Parents choice diapers and used 150.

1 Child of mine body 0/3 month suit made by carters(Item is in the center of first tier on cake. (not visible)(optional)

1 Child of mine pants in light blue 0/3 months made by carters also in the center of first tier. (not visible))optional)

1 Carters Dino Pals sweater and pant set 0/3 months. Placed in the center of second tier. (not visible)(optional)

1 Gerber Terry cloth bib and matching burp cloth, and baby blue scratch mittens. placed in the center of last tier (top layer)(optional)

1 pair of blue boy slippers made by carters.(placed on the side of cake on second tier)(optional)

1 Travel pack of baby Johnson and Johnson's bath products. Powder, shampoo, lotion, baby wash, and destine sample placed inside the first tier as well.

1 Nojo plush monkey 12inch

1 123 puppy rattle and tether made by Fisher Price.(optional)

2 Baby spoons blue and white. or you can use a fork and spoon (optional)

2 1.5inx144in (about 4 yards of one and 2 yards of the other) I chose baby blue polka dot.

6 medium sized rubber bands in blue.

1 small rubber band

1 small bag of basket shreds your choice of color I chose yellow about 85 cubic centimeters.

1 glue gun

1 glue stick.

1 clear sized basket bag 22inch x 30inch.

1 9x9 cake pan (to form your cake)

1 Roll of double sided removable transparent tape, about 1/4 inch in size.

1 roll of regular scotch tape.

1. box of push pins. I used about fifteen or so just to keep my tiers and monkey from toppling over. I used about 15.

1 sheet of tissue paper to cover tiers so diapers and contents in the middle are not affected by shreds. I chose a baby blue polka dot patterns, but u can use
white. (optional)

1 Bow Dabra bow maker with instruction book.

2 yards of bow ribbon tie wire

I like to sketch a picture of what I am about to make before hand sort of like a blue print, and work off of that. This was my very first attempt at a diaper cake.

1. Gather your supplies.

2.Plug in your glue gun and set aside from other supplies to insure the glue gun is ready when needed.

3. Take your body suit and your pants and roll into a cylinder. do the same for your other baby clothes or items you will be using. Put aside.

4. Make your desired style of bow using your Bowdabra or what ever method you use to make bows. ensuring that one is bigger than the next. So that you have a large bow for your bottom tier a medium bow for your center tier and a small bow for your top tier. Set aside.

5. Set a scrap bag aside your work station to throw away scraps while working if no longer needed.

6. Take your 9x9inch cake pan and diapers and begin placing diapers into the pan, making sure to hold the diapers firmly against the inside edge of the pan. I did not use the rolling method. So be sure to overlap the diapers about 2 inches or so with in each other. Till you get a perfect circle. Keeping a small whole in the middle.Overlap your last diaper in the opposite direction as beginning diapers insuring you hide the design flap on the top of the diaper.

7. Add your first rolled up set of baby products and place in the center to fill the whole.

8. Place a medium sized rubber band around the first tier of your cake. Once secure remove the cake form the pan and adjust diapers and baby products as you would like to form a circle. Keep in mind the rubber band is there to keep everything form forming apart, while you adjust the cake tier.

9. Take 1 squared piece of tissue and place on the top of your tier, tucking into the middle of your cake insuring that the only thing covered are the products in the center. flip over and do the same for the bottom of the cake.

10. Place a few strands of double sided removable tape across the top of your cake. Making sure that the double sided tape stay over the center of the cake.

11. Add some shreds over the top of your cake.

12. Repeat steps 5 through 10, using less diapers for each tier.

13. place some double sided removable tape on the bottom of second tiers so that it can grip to the first tier.

14. place 3 push pins on the sides and back of tier into the first tier to keep it form toppling.

15. Repeat steps 5 through 13 for your last and final tier.

16. With ribbon measure the amount of ribbon you would need to wrap completely around the center of your cake. Making sure that the ribbon overlaps about an inch and a half or so.

17. Place some double sided tape on one side of the ribbon.

18. Place ribbon around cake tier again and tape both ends together. Making sure to fold one side of ribbon to cover the frayed ends.

19. Take your hot glue gun,(being very careful it is very hot at this point) and your larger bow put a small dot of hot glue gun on the back of bow. Blow a little only to stop the glue from dripping do not let the glue harden. Place the bow onto the center of the ribbon covering the over lap you made.

20. Repeat steps 16 through 20 for each of the following tiers. Set glue gun aside.

21. place your plush toy on the top of your cake (pose as desired) tier. Using some double sided tape on the toys bottom so it is a bit tacky. And place push pins evenly where needed to adhere the toy to the top tier.

22. Place rattle in the toys lap or hand or however desired. Using double sided tap wrap around toys a few times and adhere to toy. Making sure to try and hide the tape.

23. Take your hot glue gun and your Johnson and Johnson's products place a small dot of glue on the labels of the products one at a time. And place product ensuring that products are place on the ribbon not the diapers. I chose to place my products to the back of my cake.

24 Take your baby booties and remaining tissue and stuff your booties, to shape. Take a push pin and adhere the booties to a place where you desire on the cake, I chose the second tier to each side of the cake.

25. Take your small rubber band and your two baby spoons. Wrap the rubber band around the spoons, making sure that the spoons over lap in sort of an x shape.

26. place your spoons behind the ribbon in a desired place. in this case I chose the bottom tier behind the bow. Make sure the rubber band is not showing.

27. Place your basket wrap from top to bottom. be sure that you have some holding the cake on the ends so that you can tape the bottom of the wrap to the bottom of the cake with the regular scotch tape.

You Are Done!

For this size cake the basket wrap I chose was to small to wrap form the bottom up.( I under estimated how tall the cake would be) So I was not able to bunch up at the top and add a decorative ribbon on the top.

You can substitute the bag for cellophane wrap instead. Or Tulle.

This was my first attempt at making a cake so I do apologize if I missed something. Although I do not believe I have. Thanks so much for taking a look. And thanks for allowing me to enter this contest. I have a few more showers on the way an a new niece and nephew on the way so I will be making some more. I am sure.

Monkey Diaper Cake

Monkey Diaper Cake

Monkey Diaper Cake

This Monkey diaper cake is jungle themed since the mommy-to-be has decorated the baby's room with monkeys.

It is three tiered, uses 80 newborn sized diapers. For the base I just used a plastic serving dish that you can buy at the dollar store.

In the center (to stabilize the tiers) I have a bottle brush I started with the bottom tier, rolled the diapers up and rubber banded them around the bottle brush.

Then I wrapped the bottom tiers in receiving blankets. Topped it off with a plush monkey and used coordinating ribbon to secure each tier(in addition to several rubber bands).

Hidden in between the diapers are passies, rattles, travel sized lotions, shampoos, and baby powder.

Monkeying around diaper cake

I made this cake for an old classmate of mine. She is having identical twin girls and asked for a pink and brown cake with monkeys.

I rolled all 240 diapers and used white hair rubber bands to secure them each. Then I used dowels for the center support pieces to secure the diapers too. I built two towers of diapers and then a smaller ring of diapers on the top of each big tower( secured with ribbon and extra large rubber bands).

I used dowels to make the monkey bar to hang the monkeys from. I used 2 green washcloths to make "bushes" to hide the dowels. and I uses yellow socks filled with more socks to make bananas hanging from the monkey bar. It was pretty simple to make once I got a secure idea of what i was going for. I made two sides to this diaper cake. One with the monkeys upright and one with the monkeys upside down, with identical monkeys for each little girl.

Thanks for letting me share.
