The baby's room was decorated in sea creatures so the mom requested a cake that was in keeping with that theme.

I used a styrofoam ball for the octopus body rather than making a round cake for the top as the base cake was so big already and it was much easier to work with the Styrofoam than it would have been had it been made of cake.

Just star-ice the styrofoam like you would if it were cake. I used a fruit filling between the three thin layers and then decorated as you see in the picture.

This is my favorite cake that I've ever made and it was a big hit. I haven't been able to top it yet.
