Pregnant Belly Baby Shower Cake

by Robert
(Oklahoma)

Baby Belly Cake

Baby Belly Cake

For this unique baby shower cake, I used a cupcake pan for the top part and the Wilton soccer pan for the belly.

After letting it cool, I spread buttercream icing on the cakes and then applied fondant over the icing.

Shiny Fondant
by: Anonymous

Fondant is awesome to work with. The fondant is shiny because it has been simply "painted" with water. beautiful cake.

question about fondant
by: 1goodcook

I love you cake idea! I make cakes for weddings, showers and anniversaries so I've had a little bit of cake baking experience. I'm not fond of working with fondant, though and fortunately for me it's not real popular in this part of the country. My question for you is concerning the fondant. What makes it so shiney? I've never seen it shine before. My daughter-in-law is expecting our first grandchild this Nov. and I'd LOVE to recreate your cake idea. Just need to know how to make it shine.
Thanks, Robert.

Baby Belly
by: Anonymous

I make these belly cakes and use a regular size cupcake pan for the boobs. I make extra in case they don't all turn out the same. And as for the comment about the C section and expecting to fin a baby... well I actually put one of those Wilton babies in the belly after it's been bakes and whoever has the baby in their piece gets a prize. But I have never had anyone say it was weird, everyone loves the idea.

What kind of cupcake pan did you use for the top part? I'm planning on attempting this design for my own baby shower cake.

Awsome work
by: Grammizel

This cake is really cool. I plan to try and make it for my daughters up coming babyshower. I here the fondant is better if you make it yourself. Also looks like the person may have used something to make it shine. Very cool cake kudo's to the designer.

Ok,the ladies who can't get past it reminding her of the c-section. Relax. I am sure it taste nothing like what a C-section looks like.

Pregnant Belly
by: Anonymous

Come on ladies its a cake! It very well done. the icing underneath is a good idea if you are not making the fondant yourself. some of you must have had or seen a C-section to feel like that. Bravo for the creativeness.

Soon to be a proud Grandma!

classy &fun
by: deanna bougher

it was so refreshing to see a cake that wasn't so typical "baby shower." You know, pastel and full of teddy bears, bows, etc. I think the cake is classy and fun!

Too pretty to eat
by: Anonymous

Very unique the colors and detail are amazing, I'm just not sure about the whole cutting into the belly almost feels too realistic like a c-section, I'd expect to find a baby inside.

again with the cutting into the belly and having a snack....not the most appetizing although the workmanship is quite good.
