Request for "family oriented" shower ideas

by Ann
(Tacoma, WA)

I want to host a "family oriented" baby shower. Instead of just having women at the shower, this shower will be for everyone in the family. Does anyone have any ideas on how to make this a memorable event?

Family oriented baby shower
by: Mar

Hi,
I just hosted a family oriented baby shower last weekend...We did a covered dish lunch..everyone brought something to eat..I even had a friend who brought her commercial coffee pot and a basket of real coffee mugs to use..it was great...we provided the plates, cups, napkins, silverware and tea...then, because we had children, men and women of all ages attend we decided to have pieces of paper and a fabric bag we found at a hallmark store on the table that said baby love on it...Guests put their name on the paper & put in bag...I purchased 12 small gifts, 4 for men, such as $!1 body washes from bath & body works; also 4 for women, such as a candle, magnetic shopping list, coconut lime lotion & pineapple lotion; 4 for kids-puzzle book, pink & blue sucker, toy squirting camera and bubbles and put them on a cute tray on table. My daughter drew out names for the prizes & as she read off name her husband carried tray around for winner to choose item. Then we served cake and punch that everyone ate as my daughter and son-in-law opened gifts. On same table as prizes had a binder with pages in it for everyone to give a "shower of wishes" and a page for their name& address which works well for thank you's...I also purchased a small binder & 4 by 6 index cards..printed out on my computer the line:Words of advice for the new parents;cut & used my glue runner to glue to top of each card for guests to fill out...also put monkey stickers on corner of each card as this was her theme..cute and so much less expensive..on that same table had pics in frames of the couple as children & together..everyone liked that too..Had many compliments on the table decorations and the entire shower..Everyone said they had a good time.

both men & women
by: carol

I live in Hawaii. i've always invited both sexes to our baby showers. it takes two to tangle! haha
the best game to play is feeding eachother pudding blind folded. it's the best laugh of the day. don't forget to make them wear a baby bib while playing this game.

family show ideas
by: Anonymous

Our family has always had family baby showers. Never anything else. We have some games that are just men and have most that are for everyone. The reason for having primarily men is because most of the time the men at the party don't win. This way you make sure they are included. The cute games that are just men are for example:
You have to have a medium to large balloon filled with air. You hand it to each guy at the party. You have the guy put the balloon under his shirt. Then the host of the shower walks up to each guy and unties their shoe. If they do not have shoe lace's you give them a string for each shoe. They need to try to tie their shoes. They can NOT move the balloon out of the way. They are automatically disqualified or have their shoe lace untied again.
The first to complete this wins a prize.

There are the games that include both genders:

like the diaper game that has chocolate bars (all different kinds) melted into the diaper. It make it look like real baby doodoo. You number each diaper and keep the list to yourself so you know the answer. Then you pass the set of diapers around giving X amount of time for them to guess the chocolate. They can smell, but not lick it. These are great pictures to take of your guest at the party with their nose in a diaper full of dark brown stuff.

There are many games that are for both...

The game where they have to finish the nursery rhyme

The game where they have to unscramble the baby words.

Name the baby animal that goes with the "parent" animal. EX: a kid is with a ............ (answer)Goat........a cub is with a ............ lion. The fund ones are the ones that no one has heard of or are not familiar with.

Who knows the mom/dad best...21 questions (answers)

The baby clothes pin game - can't cross your legs/or say baby either one (you choose).

The memory tray...

You get the point. There are many options.

Open House Style
by: Anonymous

You could have an "Open House" style shower after the baby is born - where family and friends stop in during the day to see the baby, bring gifts and visit.
Serve snack foods such as meats, cheese, rolls.

Notes!
by: ALEX

Have everyone write a note to the baby about something that there parents did as a child or a short story of the family! For the kids who cant write have them draw a picture or use washable finger paint and have them put there the hand/ foot print on a piece of paper title "I Love You Baby ____" then just write the name of the person who print is was!. good luck!
