Storybook Baby Shower Cake

Storybook Baby shower Cake

Using parchment paper in jelly roll cake pans we made three cakes, Triple Chocolate Fudge, Pistachio and Vanilla.
We frosted the layers together, then carved the top vanilla layer to look like an open book. We then frosted the entire cake with white buttercream. Using a Wilton sawtooth tool we made the sides of the cake look like pages of a book.
On the computer we created print for our "baby story" and printed it on photo paper to fit on the cake.

special deal for our readers!

Before we set it on the frosting, we took clear sticky shelf liner and lined the back of the photo paper to try to keep the grease from the frosting from seeping into the paper. (It did seep as you can see, but it added to the charm, looking like an old fairytale!)
We set each page on the cake, and piped decorative frosting around the story to secure it in place.
We added flowers and sweet pea decorations made with gum paste and frosting, and two Hallmark ornaments of baby fairies for a keepsake for our mom to be. A ribbon bookmark was added just before the guests arrived to finish the look.
