Tiny Treasures Monkey Cake

For this hat box filled with baby goodies, I baked a 10" layer cake, iced it with buttercream and covered it wtih pastel yellow fondant.

For the lid, I used a cardboard cake circle. It is covered with fondant. This is tricky, I rolled out a circle of fondant and laid the cardboard circle on top so I could trim the fondant an 1 1/2" bigger than the cardboard.

special deal for our readers!

I piped some icing around the edge of the cardboard so I could fold over the excess fondant and attach it. This step you do last because you need to put the lid on right away.

All the toys, onesie, washcloths are made out of fondant.
